Reading Vivian Maier

Describe It:
While looking at this piece of art, we are able to see the the paining and the man observe each other. The man seems very intrigued by the painting causing him to tilt his head to the right and the seems to be doing the same thing because the person in the painting is tilting her head to the right, as if she was trying to understand the man.

Relate It:
I love the irony in this photograph because we get to see the real life person look at the still life painting but the painting is doing it back at him. For me this photograph shows a lot because I am a photographer and an artist so this shows everything in one picture; how the art speaks to someone and even right now that is what we are doing just by observing this picture.

Analyze It:
The most important part of this picture is the moment this was captured because that one guy had a real interest in the painting and so he was looking further in depth and Vivian was able to capture that moment. I would love to ask vivian how long she has waited there at that spot to watch this man get so tuned in with that piece of art.

Interpret It:
I would title this, "The art looks at us, as much as we look at it" because it is very clear to see in this picture that the art is able to speak and intrigue to the man as much as us humans do to art. She wanted us to realize that any form of art we are able to communicate with it.

Evaluate It:
I think Vivian did a great job because she was able to make the vocal point only of the man and the painting while there were other distractions such as other people, lights and walls. I would give this photograph an A personally because it spoke to me so much since I am an artist as well.

Describe It:
Vivian was able to take a picture of herself in this mirror that was being carried away by this worker and still making the picture look sharp. It's like she took a picture as if she was the the reflection of the man.

Relate It:
This photo reminds me of myself because she is trying to look at herself in different ways and she was seeing herself as a working man in this photo. This photo can say much more than it actually being live because she stopped it right on time so we are able to see the back of the man but not the front of him and vise versa with only her front side but not her back side.

Analyze It:
This photo looks crowded due to all the blankets, the other workers, and the buildings but she was able to make herself stand out. She was able to make the mirror and herself very center of the photo making the spotlight on her.

Interpret It:
I would title this, "My Reflection in Other Peoples Eyes" because what was that man thinking when he saw Vivian in the mirror. And I have noticed with her other self portraits that she tries to find little reflections and being able to capture it. She is tying to find herself in different situations and she wants us to see by taking photos of herself in these little, random spots.

Evaluate It:
I thought she did a great job with this photo because it is impressive of how center she made herself in the shot even with the man moving. Plus I like this one even more because it tells a story about herself and how she sees herself.
